The 2018“FLTRP·ETIC Cup” English public speaking, writing and reading contest finals were held in Beijing from December 4th to 9th. 383 contestants from 30 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions competed together. After many rounds of fierce competition, Ruan Yijian, an English major student from the College of Foreign Languages, won the first prize in the reading contest. Liu Zhenwei, also an English major student from the College of Foreign Languages, won the second prize in the writing contest, and Chen Huiru, an environmental design major student from the College of Landscape Architecture, won the third prize in the speaking contest. This is the first time that our contestants have advanced to the three finals at the same time.

The preliminary contest of 2018“FLTRP·ETIC Cup” English public speaking, writing and reading contest began in September. The three students from NEFU started the contest from the offline and online contest, and finally stood out from many contestants in various universities around Heilongjiang Province. In the rematch of Heilongjiang Province, they won the first place in the reading and speaking contest and the third place in the writing contest. They also represented Heilongjiang Province in the national finals. NEFU becomes the only university in Heilongjiang Province in which the contestants have advanced to all the three finals.

“FLTRP·ETIC Cup”Uchallenge was jointly sponsored by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, the Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, the English Teaching Guidance Subcommittee of the Ministry of Education, and the China Foreign Language and Education Research Center. Since its inception in 2012, the event has created a platform for college students to show their style and challenge themselves. The“FLTRP·ETIC Cup” series of events are high-level events in China with a high reputation. The events provide an international integrated platform for students to demonstrate their foreign language, communication, and thinking skills. These contests aim to serve the national strategy and to cultivate high-quality international talents. With challenging themes and forms, the contests examine and evaluate the contestants’ language ability, speculative ability, innovative ability and intercultural communication ability. This international talent training concept can not only guide the direction of continuous innovation of the contests, but also promote the reform and development of foreign language teaching.
