Recently, the bookPopulation and Habitat Dynamics of Amur Tigers and Their Targeted Management Strategies in China, written by Professor Jiang Guangshun et al.,was published by Science Press. It was reviewed by Professor Ma Jianzhang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering and former director of the China State Forestry Administration Feline Research Center, at which Jiang works as an executive deputy director. For the first time, the book proposes the concept of promoting "targeted wildlife conservation", and is an important reference for the restoration of Amur tiger habitats, population monitoring technology, ecological corridor construction, human wildlife conflict, the scientific management of human interference, the scientific zoning of Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, as well as China-Russia wildlife conservation, and it’s of both theoretical and practical significance to protect and manage other endangered carnivores and their habitats.

Based on the long-term research on the population and habitat dynamics of Amur tigers, the authors collected and analyzed huge amounts of field and laboratory data, comprehensively applied many ecological theories associated with species distribution models, food choices, bottom-up effects, ethology, molecular ecology, land sparing and land sharing, and ecological threshold, along with groundbreaking technologies involving the ascertainment of habitats and eco-corridors, the recognition of Amur tigers based on footprint images and stripes. As a result, the book comprehensively describes the dynamic characteristics of Amur tiger population and habitats, which will effectively promote the formulation and implementation of targeted management strategies.

This monograph is supported by the project of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Department of Conservation of National Forestry and Grassland Administration, National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No. NSFC31872241), the National Key R&D Program of China during the 13th Five-Year Plan Period (Grant No. 2016YFC0503200), the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities (Grant No. 2572017PZ14), and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment ( Grant No. 2019HB2096001006).
