Recently, the Western Program Office for National University Student Volunteer Service released the performance assessment results of 2020, and the Western Program Office of NEFU was rated excellent, which is the seventh time NEFU has won this award.
Since joining the Western Program in 2003, NEFU has attached great importance to and carefully organizing the project, specifically setting up the Western Program Office for Student Volunteer Service. The office strictly enforces recruitment procedures, focuses on training effects and improvesthe quality ofservices. By the end of 2020, NEFU has sent 320 volunteersin totalto less developed areas to carry out volunteer services in basic education, making contributions to the cause of poverty eradication and rural revitalization.
In 2020, 25 members from the 22nd Postgraduate Student Volunteer Teaching Group of NEFU went to six schools in Guizhou, Jilin and Inner Mongolia for a one-year volunteer teaching service. They are responsible for teaching more than 40 classes with more than 1500 students, covering 16 subjects such as Chinese, mathematics, English, morality and law, marketing, piano, etc. They have taught more than 8000 hours in total. In addition to teaching, they actively participate in the work of local schools and poverty alleviation departments, organize various activities and achieve remarkable results, winning the popularity of local schools and villagers. Their deeds were widely reported by media such as China Youth, Guizhou Daily and Western Volunteer. At the same time, six students from NEFU havetravelled to Xinjiang, Tibet and Sichuan through the Western Program to carry out volunteer service and actively contribute their talents to the local economic and social development, which has been highly recognized and widely praised by the local community.

Since its establishment in September 2020, the 23rd Postgraduate Student Volunteer Teaching Group has focused on the study of the“Four Histories”, especially the history of the Party. All members have studied socialist thought with Chinese characteristics in the new era, especially the important statements on education and volunteerism by President Xi Jinping. Through study, observation and other training forms, the group improved the overall quality and enhanced the collective cohesion. In addition, the group actively participated in the volunteer service of the 12th“Challenge Cup” College Students Business Plan Competition, and accomplished various tasks during the preparation and holding of the competition.
The22nd Postgraduate Student Volunteer Teaching Groupis Organized and Trained as Required
The China Youth Volunteer Postgraduate Teaching Group and the University Student Volunteer Western Program were launched in 1998 and 2003 respectively, jointly implemented by the Central Committee of the Youth League and the Ministry of Education, recruiting a certain number of outstanding postgraduates each year to carry out 1-3 years of volunteer service in education, health, agricultural technology and poverty alleviation in western poor areas. NEFU students will surely pass on the baton of volunteer service, firmly believe in their beliefs, always have their country in mind, carry forward the volunteer spirit of“dedication, friendship, mutual help and progress”, join the great cause of the country through service and dedication, and let their youth blossom where the Party and the people need it most.
