On the afternoon of October 27, a series of Chinese Culture Salons of "China in Brush & Ink" were held in Dan Qing Building. 20 international students from Yemen, Ukraine, Vietnam and other countries and more than 10 Chinese students gathered to learn the long history of Chinese calligraphy and enjoy the fun of writing Chinese characters. Overseas international students also took part in this activity online.
Mrs. Li Zhuoran of the Admission Office of the School of International Education and Exchanges introduced the history of Chinese traditional calligraphy, the Four Treasures of Study and the development of Chinese calligraphy to the students who were deeply impressed by the large quantity and the changeable forms of Chinese characters.
After the introduction, it was time to speak and write in Chinese. The international students were so enthusiastic that they communicated with Chinese students and wrote their favorite Chinese characters with the help of teachers and Chinese students. Overseas international students also picked up pencils or pens and wrote characters with their full attention, which reflected their profound love for Chinese culture despite the screen between us. Wei Minghan, a master’s student from Yemen, excitedly said to the teachers after class, "We learned a lot of the strokes of Chinese characters at Chinese class, but it’s our first time to write them down with the Chinese brush, and it’s much more difficult than with the pen!"
This Chinese Culture Salon has stimulated enthusiasm among international students through learning Chinese calligraphy, developed Chinese traditional culture, and strengthened the exchanges between teachers and students. The School of International Education and Exchanges will carry out more Chinese Culture Salons to introduce the charm of Chinese traditional culture and to promote sino-foreign cultural exchanges, as well as to encourage international students to experience culture in practice, practice Chinese in communication.
