Chinese tea culture has a long history - “After a thousand years, if you still come, the tea is boiled and water is fragrant”. In order that international students can enjoy Chinese traditional culture at a close distance and improve their oral Chinese in communication and experience, on the afternoon of November 24th, the NEFU School of International Education and Exchanges held the second Chinese Culture Salon for the fall semester of 2021. Focusing on the theme ofChina in Tea Fragrance, about 20 international students from Yemen, Russia, Bangladesh and other countries and volunteers for Chinese tea gathered in the Tea Culture Research and Creation Studio of the China (Harbin) Forest Museum to taste refreshing Chinese tea and learn about the long history of Chinese tea culture.

Ms. Li Zhuoran from the School of International Education and Exchanges comprehensively and systematically explained the basic knowledge of Chinese tea culture from four aspects: the origin and history of tea, the classification and identification of tea, the introduction and display of tea sets, the efficacy and artistic conception of drinking tea. Later, Ms. Li showed the brewing skills of tea on the spot, and gave a detailed introduction to every process and technique of making tea. The students followed Ms. Li with high interest to practice repeatedly and experience the fun of making tea.

Sipping tea and appraising its flavor and quality, international students actively communicate with volunteers, ask about the details of brewing skills in earnest, and introduce their own country’s tea culture in Chinese. Huimei, a student from Pakistan, excitedly introduced to everyone: “My country has the habit of drinking sweet milk tea. Although Chinese tea is a little bitter, it smells very fragrant. This fragrance is very special. I like Chinese tea very much.” In this elegant and quiet space, it filled with the laughter of Chinese and foreign teachers and students and light tea fragrance.

The Chinese Culture Salon shows the charm of Chinese traditional culture, cultivates international students’ interest in Chinese culture and Chinese learning, and promotes study exchanges between Chinese and foreign students, which is deeply loved and welcomed by foreign students. In recent years, through the Mid-Autumn Festival Poetry Reading Contest, experiencing Chinese calligraphy, cooking Chinese food and other activities, the School of International Education and Exchanges has led international students to understand and spread Chinese culture, and built a good platform for students at home and abroad to love Chinese culture and improve their Chinese level.
