The results of the 2021 AB Cup Chinese Speech Contest for Foreigners were recently announced. Our NEFU international students were awarded 1 Third Prize, 1 ExcellencePrize and 6 Encouragement Awards, and Xu Han, an international student counselor, won the Outstanding Advising Award.
The 2021 AB Cup Chinese Speech Contest for Foreigners was hosted by the Translators Association of Harbin, organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of Harbin Municipal People’s Government and exclusively sponsored by Harbin Budweiser Urban Development Foundation, jointly organized by Harbin Enterprise and Investment Service Bureau and other units. The contest was divided into three stages, namely preliminary, semi-final and final, all conducted online from October 2020 to November 2021. The participants were required to describe Harbin in their eyes in Chinese, tell stories of the city, to promote Harbin’s image and Chinese culture.
Uponreceiving the news, our international students andgraduateswere eager to participate in the contest. All eight videosselected by the collegepassed the preliminary round, three of them entered the final round, and twosucceededto meet the final round with accurate Chinese expressions and excellent video production. In the end, Indonesian student FARIS RAFI ALMAY WIDAGDO (Faris) won the third prize for her workMyFirst Times in Harbin,and another Indonesian student DINA OKTAVIA (Zhuang Tianning) won the excellenceprize for her workMyFirst Day in Harbin,and the other six international students won theencouragementawards.
Throughthesevideos, studentsrecalledtheir life in Harbin, demonstrating not only their fluency in Chinese, but also their deep affection for Harbin and for China. “The wonderful life in the Northeast Forestry University provided each of us the opportunity to discover the beauty of the city.” Faris, a student who graduated in July of this year, said that he posted the video on his WeChat and Facebook account, so that his friends and family in Indonesia can experience the beautiful moments and unforgettable stories during his study in China.
In recent years, Northeast Forestry University has attached great importance to the teaching of Chinese to international students, focusing on the integration of theory and practice, bringing Chinese language and Harbin regional culture into classroom teaching and extra-curricular practice, and has been actively exploring new ways to tell the Chinese story and spread the Chinese voice.
