On May 15th, 2022, “Bird Care Week” in Heilongjiang Province successfully ended in Northeast Forestry University. During the one-week period, our school carried out a series of activities such as the theme-group day, the exhibition of bird documentary, photography contest with the theme of protecting nature, literary creation competition themed by youth’s creativity, the bird knowledge contest, and bird watching in forest farms. More than a thousand students participated in the publicity and education activities of “Bird Care Week” through online contributions and on-site activities, which drove the public to actively participate in the movement of bird caring and bird protection. It also contributed to the protection of birds, biodiversity, and the building of a green home where man and nature can live in harmony, and raised the awareness of wildlife protection among the public, helping to build a “beautiful China”.

On May 9th, series of activities of the 40th “Bird Care Week” in Heilongjiang Province were first started in our school. The theme of this year is “Guarding the Blue Sky Elves and Sharing a Beautiful Home”. Considering epidemic prevention and control, College of Wildlife and Protected Area scientifically carried out a series of activities both online and offline. The activity was carried out in the form of a theme group day, in which the origin and significance of “Bird Care Week” were introduced. The student representatives shared stories about birds with the theme of “Spirit of Nature, Friends of Human Beings”, telling the interesting things they have learned about birds and their understanding and perception of how to love birds. Communist Youth League members on the site had fruitful discussions around three topics: “respecting nature, adapting to nature and protecting nature”, “protecting birds means protecting human beings” and “respecting bird habits and raising awareness of protecting wild birds”. As the representative of young teachers, Qin Cuiping from the College of Wildlife Protection, read outthe Proposal for Love and Protection of Birds. All the teachers and students who participated in the activity signed their names at the exhibition board and took a group photo together as a memory.

From May 9th to 15th, NEFU launched a relay quiz activity. More than a thousand student participated in the quiz activity through on-site topic selection and online question-answering. By sharing interesting knowledge about birds, the activity popularized relevant knowledge for students and also increased their interest, attracting many students to stop to watch or to participate in online question-answering.

During the activity, the College of Wildlife Protection showed the large-scale documentary about bird-Nature Classroomon the college TV screen. Through the exhibition, the students' knowledge of bird science has been greatly enriched, their enthusiasm for participating in bird-caring activities has been improved, the knowledge of wildlife protection has been brought into the campus and classroom, and young people have been guided to respect nature, adapt to nature and protect nature, thus creating a good atmosphere for jointly protecting wildlife.

The theme photography contest of “Protecting Nature, You and I are in Action” and the theme literary creation contest of “Painting the Spirit of the Sky with the Pen of Youth” are the main online activities of this “Bird Care Week”. As soon as the activity went online, it immediately attracted the participation of many students, and some of their parents joined to study and create together. The event attracted contributions of more than 500 people, and received 116 photographs and 103 literary works. Many students shared their paintings, impressions and photographs in WeChat Moments, which greatly enhanced the popularity of the event.

During “Bird Care Week”, our school also organized bird watching activities in the campus forest, opened an online science popularization column, invited professional teachers of the college to introduce different birds on the spot, and publicized and introduced wildlife protection through videos and pictures and texts through Tencent video conference, covering topics such as the prohibition of illegal wildlife trade, getting rid of the bad habit of eating wild animals , and my favorite ten birds in Longjiang, with more than a thousand people participating.
