In recent days, the national finals of the 10th National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition was held in Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). After several rounds of competition, the student team for optical fiber temperature measurement, guided by Professor Cui Jingang from the NEFU College of Science, were awarded the National Finals Second Prize.

The National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition is on the National College Students Competition Ranking List which is recognized by the Ministry of Education. The Competition received a total of 2,768 projects submitted by 17,364 teachers and students from 351 colleges and universities across the country. After the school competition, the provincial competition and the selection of seven sub-divisions in North, Northeast, Northwest, Southwest, Central, Southeast and East China, 2,538 teachers and students of 337 participating teams from 154 colleges and universities finally entered the national finals.

The Physics Application and Innovation Center of the College of Science started the preparation work for the Opt-Sci-Tech Competition in April 2022, and selected 9 instructors, including 3 young professors, 10 master’s students in optical engineering, and more than 50 undergraduates majoring in physics to form a team. After rounds of selection and competition, the team finally was awarded 1 second prize in the national competition, 3 first prizes and 5 second prizes in the Northeast Division, and 10 first prizes and 8 second prizes in the Heilongjiang Province Division, which is the best result NEFU has ever had in the competition.

This competition has exercised students’ innovative thinking, cultivated students’ sense of unity and cooperation, and also enhanced the friendship between teachers and students. The College of Science will take this opportunity to further reform the competition training model, promote teaching with competition, promote learning with competition, and promote innovation with competition, so as to improve the quality of professional talent training.
