On October 8, the Northeast Forestry University (NEFU) “Chinese Bridge” online short-term program, sponsored by the Center for Sino-foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and organized by NEFU, started on schedule. Nearly 200 international students from 17 countries, including Russia, Pakistan and Vietnam, started their online learning journey. Director of the Department of International Cooperation Sun Zhiping, Dean of the School of International Education and Exchange Luo Ying, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs Department Sun Xiaofang and teachers' representatives attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhou Xuehong, Vice Dean of the School of International Education and Exchange.

Mr. Sun Zhiping, Director of the office of International Cooperation, delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony. He extended a warm welcome to the students participating in the online exchange program and introduced the basic situation of NEFU and the achievements of the university in international exchange and cooperation. He expressed that the theme of this “Chinese Bridge” program is wetland ecology, and hoped that the students would experience the beauty of Heilongjiang, understand Chinese culture, and enhance their interest in Chinese language during the two weeks of study.

Luo Ying, Dean of the School of International Education and Exchange, expressed her gratitude to the Center for Sino-foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, and hoped that the international students would learn about the long history of Chinese language and culture, acquire a certain knowledge of ecology, improve their understanding of the effectiveness of China’s ecological civilization, and feel the vitality of the natural ecology of Heilongjiang through the online course of “Chinese Bridge”. She also wished that the students would learn something from the exchange program.

Zhang Wei, the teacher of the Chinese course, spoke on behalf of the teachers. She said that our university has a professional team of Chinese teachers and they will work diligently to provide quality teaching for the students and lead them to explore the fun of learning Chinese and perceive Chinese culture.

Ding Qiuxian from Vietnam spoke as a representative of the students, “Through online learning, I can not only learn Chinese and ecological knowledge, but also visit the ecological landscape of Heilongjiang without leaving home, and make more friends from all over the world. Thanks to Northeast Forestry University for giving us such an opportunity, I will study hard and try to get good results to repay all the teachers who have worked so hard”.

Hasen from Pakistan said, “I have already participated in the two Chinese Bridge programs held by NEFU last year, and each program was very interesting and informative, and brought me more cultural experiences about China.”

In order to ensure the quality of the program, NEFU made sufficient preparations, discussed with the teachers many times about the course content and teaching methods, and cooperated with the professional filming team to carefully produce a bilingual cultural video course, which organically integrates Chinese learning, cultural experience and ecological elements, effectively combines recording and live broadcast, and leads the international students to experience the beautiful Heilongjiang wetland at the same time. Through a diversified teaching experience mode, the course will lead international students to expand their ecological knowledge, understand Chinese culture and enhance their interest in learning the Chinese language while experiencing the beautiful Heilongjiang wetlands.
