On September 23, on the second anniversary of China's announcement of “carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060”, the book, “The Theory and Practice of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality”, co-edited by NEFU’s Professor Sheng Chunguang and published by China Environment Science Press, was launched in Beijing.
Jiang Youxu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Science and member of the first National Expert Committee on Climate Change, said that carbon peak and carbon neutrality have great significance and far-reaching influence. In this book, the authors elaborated the theories of carbon peak and carbon neutrality in simple language, and analyzed practical cases, providing reference cases and experience. It’s really a good book.
Sheng Chunguang, as a think tank expert of economic development of modern forestry carbon sink in Heilongjiang province and one of the three chief editors, said, in accordance with the requirements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on carbon peak and carbon neutrality, the book took references from the latest research results and practical experience from around the world. The mission of the book: comprehensively interpreting “carbon peak and carbon neutrality” strategy and taking green and low-carbon development into practice. Under the guidance of the Academic Committee, the research fruits and practical experience of many years were extracted to explain the connotation and significance of “carbon peak and carbon neutrality”, and to answer the important question of how to achieve this goal in China.
He added that co-editing the book with Xu Dingming, former State Department counselor, and Li Jinliang, founding president of Beijing Institute of Green Resources, not only reflects the contribution and status of NEFU in the strategic study of “carbon peak and carbon neutrality”, but is also an implementation of NEFU’s national strategy. This book encapsulates the academic achievements of carbon financial market which NEFU’s team spent over 10 years working on. In this book, the current situation of global carbon pricing mechanism was systematically analyzed, such as the carbon emissions trading system, carbon tax, greenhouse gas voluntary emissions reduction trading mechanism, etc., providing theoretical support for making the carbon pricing mechanism, establishing green financial system, and developing a better carbon financial market in China.
Xu Dingming, former State Department counselor and chief editor, said that achieving carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 is a major strategic decision made by the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping as its core, considering both domestic and international situations. It is not only an inevitable choice on the road to ease resource and environmental constraints and realize the sustainable development of the Chinesepeople but also a solemn commitment to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
