On August 14th, the 22nd edition of the RMUC(RoboMaster University Championship) 2023 concluded at the Spring Cocoon Sports Center in Shenzhen. The Ares team from Northeast Forestry University emerged victorious after intense battles in the group stages and elimination rounds, surpassing 32 teams from universities such as Northeastern University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Xi’an Jiaotong University, and successfully advanced to the top 16 in the country, winning 7 national-level awards. Moreover, our university’s robot team climbed the ranks from last year’s 72nd position to an impressive 19th place in the national standings.
The NEFU Ares team was established in 2014, following a rigorous selection process that brought together 35 undergraduate students from diverse academic backgrounds, including mechanical engineering, hardware, electronics, vision, and operations. These talented team members come from various departments such as the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Computer and Control Engineering, and the School of Economics and Management.
This year’s competition attracted 240 teams from universities such as Northeast University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and National University of Defense Technology, with over 15,000 participants. Our Ares team worked tirelessly, fully demonstrating the rigorous and innovative scientific research spirit of Northeast Forestry University's students.Their cohesive and efficient teamwork propelled them to excel on the competitive stage. The Ares team stood out in the group stage, ranking second in their group, and ultimately advanced to the top 16 in the country, achieving excellent results with 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, and 2 third prizes.
During the season, all participating team members spent one year on the production, testing, and training of 10 robots. During the winter and summer vacations, all team members stayed on campus to prepare for the competition. Embodying the team spirit of Solid Foundations, Unity and Collaboration, and Technology Inheritance, they cooperated with each other, maintaining a consistent pace of progress. Their relentless pursuit of perfection in each iteration of the robots aimed to showcase the exceptional abilities of Northeast Forestry University students and present an outstanding performance in the national competition.
RMUC(RoboMaster University Championship) was founded in 2013 by DJI Innovation. As a global shooting and combat robot competition, it has attracted the attention from hundreds of higher education institutions, thousands of high-tech enterprises, and tens of thousands of technology enthusiasts worldwide. The competition emphasizes the comprehensive application of science, engineering, and practical skills among participating teams, integrating various disciplines such as machine vision, embedded system design, mechanical control, inertial navigation, and human-machine interaction. In the 2023 season, the robot formation was comprised of hero robots, sentry robots, infantry robots, engineering robots, drones, and dart systems. As one of the competition formats under the National College Student Robot Competition, RMUC has been held for nine sessions so far.
