On the afternoon of October 20th, the second “Budweiser Cup” Chinese Speech Contest for Foreigners concluded at Heilongjiang International University. NEFU international students achieved impressive results, with one video work winning first prize, two winning third prize, one winning an excellence award, and three winning encouragement awards. The international student advisor, Ma Zhanyu, was honored with the Outstanding Instructor Award.

This competition, organized by the Translator’s Association of Harbin and launched in March of this year, aims to tell the story of Harbin through the perspective of foreign friends, to spread the voice of Harbin, and to enhance the sense of integration among foreigners living in Harbin.

After the call for entries was announced, NEFU international students were eager to sign up to participate. All seven works selected by NEFU to compete won awards. Among them, the work “Harbin in My Heart” by Vietnamese student Pham Thu Trang (Lin Shan), with its fluent Chinese expression and skilled filming and editing techniques, won the first prize. Ukrainian student Anastasiia Zub (Zhi Ruo) and Vietnamese student Nguyen Thi Huong Quynh (Xiang Qiong) won third prizes for their works. The other four international students’ works received one excellence award and three encouragement awards.

“Harbin is my second home. I love to capture its beauty with my camera and want to convey the charm of this city through videos to help more people understand Harbin!” said Lin Shan, the first-prize winner, with great enthusiasm during the closing ceremony. “The videos made by the students are so good; they show the unique style of Harbin. I plan to follow the routes in their videos, make some of my own, and personally experience the beauty of this city,” shared Chen Yu, a Moroccan international student and audience member, whose passion was ignited by the vibrant award ceremony, planting a seed in his heart to record and promote the beauty of the city.

In recent years, NEFU has been actively exploring new ways to tell China’s story. It places high importance on integrating the Chinese language education of international students with their understanding of China and Heilongjiang. NEFU is committed to serving local development, enhancing Heilongjiang’s international reputation and influence, and guiding international students to disseminate China’s voice in an engaging and appealing way. This effort contributes to Heilongjiang’s education sector as it opens to a higher level in the north.
