"This exchange program has been enriching for us. We’ve learned a lot about plant and animal sciences, experienced the beauty of traditional Chinese culture, and were amazed by Harbin’s stunning natural scenery and rich cultural heritage. We hope to return to Northeast Forestry University for more study and exchanges. We are excited to share everything we’ve experienced with our classmates in Malaysia.” These sentiments were shared by students from Kajang Yuk Hua High School in Malaysia during the closing ceremony of the 2024 autumn semester short-term program for international students. In groups, the students reflected on and shared their week-long journey, filling the room with laughter and nostalgia as they found it hard to say goodbye.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, teachers and students from Malaysia’s Kajang Yuk Hua High School participated in NEFU’s 2024 autumn semester short-term program for international students from September 14th to 20th. During the week, they visited the Harbin City Museum and the City Planning Exhibition Hall, gaining insight into Harbin’s history and modern development. They also explored Sun Island Park, where they experienced the unique charm of Harbin in autumn. Additionally, they attended lectures on ecological civilization. They visited NEFU’s international student teaching and practice base at Mao’ershan Experimental Forest, the China (Harbin) Forest Museum, and the Siberian Tiger Park, where they witnessed ecological conservation achievements in Heilongjiang Province. The group also had the opportunity to experience traditional Chinese culture, such as the Peking Opera, immersing themselves in the rich heritage of China’s 5,000-year civilization.

In recent years, NEFU’s short-term programs for international students have leveraged the school’s strengths in specialized academic disciplines, focusing on the Chinese language and traditional cultural experiences. These programs also highlight the achievements of ecological civilization efforts in Heilongjiang Province. As an important initiative in promoting international exchange and cooperation, they have become a standout feature of NEFU’s global education. The visit of Malaysian teachers and students, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, has further strengthened mutual understanding and trust. This has positively promoted exchanges and collaboration between NEFU and Malaysian schools, yielding excellent results.
