“For international students, language is the biggest obstacle to seeking medical treatment in China. Here, they not only provide multilingual services in Russian, Arabic, and other languages, but also the signage and guidance are very internationalized,” said Marina, an international student from Russia, while visiting the International Medical Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University with over 30 other international students from NEFU. This visit gave her a completely new understanding of the quality and standards of China’s medical services.

During the visit, led by staff from the International Medical Center, the international students toured the center’s advanced medical facilities and experienced the convenient and efficient medical service process. The students expressed high praise for the International Medical Center’s “one-stop” service model and patient-centered philosophy, from registration and consultation to examination and medication.

Following the tour, Zhao Jiyang, Dean of the International Education College of Harbin Medical University, Dai Jiannan, Director of the International Medical Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, Zhang Sijia, Head of the Academic Affairs Office, and other relevant staff engaged in a discussion with the international students. The students actively raised questions concerning medical insurance and the prevention of common diseases at the International Medical Center. Drawing on their extensive clinical experience, the experts provided detailed explanations in simple terms and shared insights and recommendations for healthy living.

“This exchange has given me a deeper understanding of China’s medical system, allowing me to feel more secure while studying and living here,” said Xingguang, an international student from Bangladesh. He added that he would share the knowledge gained with his classmates and friends, benefiting more people.

Organizing visits to international medical centers for international students is a significant step NEFU takes to continuously enhance the medical support services available to them in China. This event allowed the students to experience firsthand the high-quality medical services offered in China and helped them familiarize themselves with the local medical procedures. It also deepened their understanding and recognition of the Chinese medical system, promoting mutual understanding and fostering friendly relations.
