On June 21-22, the forum titled “Linking Data and Nature: Innovative Development of Sustainable Forest Management and Carbon Sinks” was held at the Forestry Science Building. The forum encouraged in-depth discussions on advanced technologies, theoretical breakthroughs, and remote sensing applications in sustainable forest management and carbon sink development.

Academician Yu Guirui, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and President of the Ecological Society of China, delivered a keynote speech titled “Challenges in Forest Carbon Sinks”. Academician Gong Jianya, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and an expert in Surveying, Mapping, and Geographic Information Science, presented a keynote speech on “Advances in Remote Sensing Technology and Its Applications in Forest Monitoring”. Academician Liu Shirong, a member of the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF), gave a keynote speech titled “Sustainable Forestry Development in China”. They elaborated on the latest research progress and strategic insights.

Li Mingze, Vice President and Standing Committee Member of theNortheast Forestry University Party Committee, emphasized the significant practical implications and far-reaching strategic value of this forum in his address. He also expressed hope that the event would serve as a platform to explore how advanced technologies such as remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and big data could be leveraged to enhance sustainable forest resource management and strengthen the role of technological innovation in green development. The forum was co-organized by the College of Forestry and the Development Planning Office, with the opening ceremony presided over by Professor Sun Long, Vice-President of NEFU and Dean of the College of Forestry.
