Yangtze University recently hosted the 19th National College Student Advanced Mapping Technology and Product Information Modeling Innovation Competition. More than 500,000 students from over 1,000 universities across China competed in the national finals, both online and offline, to showcase excellence in engineering graphics. NEFU students won multiple awards across categories, demonstrating a solid foundation in engineering graphics, rigorous engineering thinking, an innovative spirit, and strong teamwork. Their achievements highlight the effectiveness of NEFU’s efforts to foster talent through academic competitions.

The competition is jointly organized by the former Teaching Steering Committee for Engineering Graphics Courses of the Ministry of Education, the Technical Drawing Committee of the Chinese Society for Graphics, and the Product Information Modeling Committee of the Chinese Society for Graphics. It is the highest-level national competition in engineering graphics and among the most influential nationwide competitions for university students. In 2018, the China Association of Higher Education included it in the National Ranking of Discipline Competitions for Regular Higher Education Institutions.

With the theme “Digital Empowerment for Innovation in Engineering Graphics, Craftsmanship for Building a Manufacturing Powerhouse,” this year’s competition focused on digital engineering drawing, three-dimensional product modeling, and innovative design practices. Aligned with the development of emerging engineering education, it emphasized practice-oriented instruction in engineering graphics, promoted the use of digital design technologies and domestically developed industrial software, and advocated a spirit of craftsmanship. The competition aimed to cultivate highly skilled engineering professionals with strong innovative capabilities to meet the needs of intelligent manufacturing.

NEFU students achieved the following results across the categories: School of Civil Engineering and Transportation: One First Prize in the Team Competition for the Road and Bridge category; six First Prizes, three Second Prizes, and one Third Prize in the Advanced Mapping Technology category; and one Second Prize and one Third Prize in the Digital Innovation Design for Bridges category. School of Civil Engineering and Transportation and School of Landscape Architecture: One First Prize in the Team Competition for the Architecture category; four First Prizes, three Second Prizes, and four Third Prizes in the Advanced Mapping Technology category; and one First Prize and one Second Prize in the Architectural Consulting category. School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering: One First Prize in the Team Competition for the Mechanical category; one First Prize, four Second Prizes, and three Third Prizes in the Advanced Mapping Technology category; one First Prize in the Lightweight Design category; and one Third Prize in the Additive Manufacturing category. These achievements reflect NEFU’s sustained efforts to strengthen foundational engineering education and enhance students’ practical capabilities.

Academic competitions provide an important platform for university students to demonstrate their professional expertise and comprehensive abilities. NEFU students and faculty actively participate in a wide range of academic competitions, supported by NEFU and its schools. Participation in these competitions has effectively stimulated students’ innovative thinking, strengthened their teamwork skills, and provided an important platform for faculty and students to learn from one another and pursue integrated innovation. These efforts have contributed significantly to the steady improvement of NEGU’s talent development and educational quality.
