Recently, the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC), together with relevant research institutions, officially released the first Directory of World-Class Scientific and Technical Journals. Journal of Forestry Research (Chinese title: 林业研究（英文）, abbreviated as JFR), an English-language journal published by Northeast Forestry University (NEFU), was included in the directory, joining the ranks of world-class scientific and technical journals.

The directory was compiled using the World Science Citation Database and the Evaluation Indicator System for World-Class Scientific and Technical Journals. The evaluation system assesses journals across four dimensions: academic organizational capacity, academic leadership, academic influence, and social influence, using nine indicators. The directory includes 6,132 scientific and technical journals from 55 countries and regions and covers 23 languages. Of these, 353 journals from China were selected, representing approximately 5.8% of the total.

Founded in 1990, Journal of Forestry Research is one of the earliest authoritative English-language academic journals in forestry in China. Professor Song Wenlong, President of Northeast Forestry University, serves as Editor-in-Chief. The journal publishes original research articles, research briefs, and cutting-edge reviews in forestry from around the world. It focuses on key research areas, including silviculture, forest tree genetics and breeding, forest ecology, forestry engineering, and biodiversity conservation. It provides a high-level international platform for academic exchange, dissemination of research findings, and intellectual dialogue among forestry scholars in China and worldwide.

Its inclusion in the Directory of World-Class Scientific and Technical Journals reflects authoritative recognition of the Journal of Forestry Research’s academic standing, publishing quality, scholarly standards, and influence in the forestry sector. It also reflects NEFU’s sustained efforts to strengthen its “Double First-Class” forestry disciplines, advance high-level research and innovation, and deepen international academic exchange and collaboration.

Viewing this recognition as an opportunity, NEFU will continue to advance the development of world-class academic journals and leverage high-quality journal development to support discipline development, research innovation, and international collaboration. NEFU will further strengthen the distinctive NEFU brand and contribute its expertise to modernizing China’s forestry sector, advancing global ecological governance, and promoting the high-quality development of forestry as an academic discipline.
