About the Speaker

Christiane Gebhardt is the professor of the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Germany. His master’s degree of Biochemistry was from the University of Tuebingen in 1978, doctoral degree from the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Switzerland in 1982. Then he started his post-doctoral research in the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization. In 1983, he served as a post-doctoral researcher in the Rothamsted Experimental Station of the UK. In 1985, he was the researcher in the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research, Germany. In 1995, he became the professor of theUniversity of Cologne, Germany.

Since 1985, he has studied on the population genetics of plant molecular. He has been universally acknowledged on the research of controlling the structure and function of quantitative trait loci, and development of molecular markers. He has published 168 research papers onNature Genetics,Nucleic Acids Research,EMBO Journal,Plant Journal,Plant PhysiologyandPlant Cell & Environmentetc. He also reported his research results onAnnual Review of Phytopathology,Trends in Genetics, andTrends in Plant Science. He participated in publishing 13 monographs, and won one patent from Europe. He is also the associate editor of Theoretical and Applied GeneticsandMolecular Genetics and Genomics. He takes the post of the chairman in the Gene Pool Advisory Committee of the Plant Genetics and Crop Research Institute in Germany, the member in the Plant Breeding Society of Germany, the specialist in the European Association for Potato Research, and the specialist in the International Center for Tropical Agriculture.
