About the Speaker

Dr. Ding Ping, a professor and doctoral supervisor at Zhejiang University, received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Hangzhou University in 1982 and 1985, and received his Ph. D. from Beijing Normal University in 1998. From 1990 to1992, he worked as the visiting scholar in University of Montana in America, the senior visiting scholar in University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom from 2002 to 2003, and in 2006, the visiting professor in University of Alberta in Canada.

He is Director of the China Animal Society Ornithology Branch, member of the Executive Committee of the International Ornithologists Union (IOU), the International Biodiversity Program China Committee, National Wetland Science and Technology Experts Committee, the Ministry of Education Teaching Guidance Committee, and the standing member of the China Animal Society and Executive Director of the Ecology Association in Zhejiang province. He is also the associate editor ofAvian Research, executive associate editor ofEcology Journal, and editorial member ofBiodiversity.

Since 1983, he started the teaching and research work on ecology, zoology and conservation biology, especially on bird ecology and conservation biology of endangered animals. He has presided over more than 60 projects sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation etc. Nearly 130 papers have been published inGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Ecography, Journal of Animal Ecology, Journal of Biogeography, Diversity and Distributions, Biological Conservation, Landscape Ecology, Oikos,andBehavioral Ecologyetc. He has written 15 books and textbooks. He also obtainedZheng Zuoxin Young Ornithologist Award, and was awarded the title ofNational Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workerin 2012.
