Lei Fumin, male, was born in 1965, native of Weinan City, Shaanxi Province. He is a Ph.D., researcher, doctoral supervisor, and professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He served as Deputy Director of Key Laboratory of Animal Evolution and Systematics in the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, leader of the Ornithological Research Team, and leader of the Key Area Innovative Team of the National High-level Professionals Plan. He is also the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists, and included into the National Ten Thousands Talents Project and the National Millions of Talents Project. He is Vice President of the International Society of Birds, honorary member of the American Bird Society, and Vice President of the China Society of Birds. He works as the associate editor or editorial member in about ten international academic journals, likeAvian Research, Current Zoology, Integrative Zoology, Journal of Biogeography, Journal of Ornithology, Zoological Systematics, Scientific Reportsetc.

In 1994, he received his doctorate from the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of sciences. He became the associate researcher in 1996 and researcher in 2000. From October 1998 to February 2000, he went to the University of Washington, the California Academy of Sciences and the University of Michigan in the United States as a visiting scholar. At present, his research interests include systematic evolution of birds, genealogy biogeography, comparative genome in adapting to special environment, as well as avian influenza traceability and disease sources ecology etc. His future research will focus on the formation and maintenance mechanism of the special and diverse biogeography pattern of birds, bird lineage differentiation and formation mechanism of new species of birds, comparative genomics and adaptive evolution mechanism of birds in adapting to the changing environment. He has published 258 papers and books, 126 of them are published inScience, Lancet, Nature Communications, Molecular Ecology, Global Ecology and Biogeography, Diversity and Distribution, Journal of Biogeographyand other international SCI journals. He now presides over the Basic Work Project of Science and Technology sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, two National Natural Science Fund Projects, the Pilot Special Project and Pioneering Project sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
