Brief Introduction

Agriculture and Forestry Economics and Management is a state-level characteristic program, a pilot program of the Reform of Cultivation Schemes of Outstanding Agriculture and Forestry Talents of the Ministry of Education, a key program of Heilongjiang province as well as a characteristic and dominant program of NEFU. Its predecessor, Forestry Economics and Management Program, which was founded in 1959, is the earliest and the most influential program among forestry universities in China.

We boast a prominent faculty, including 15 Ph.D. supervisors, 6 master’s supervisors, 97% of whom have earned their Ph.D.s and 38% having studied abroad, possessing the capacity of cultivating overseas students for bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, Ph.D.s, and postdoctoral education.

The Agriculture and Forestry Economics and Management Program aims to cultivate research-oriented talents with innovative thinking and capability who systematically master principal theories of economics and management, basic knowledge about agriculture and forestry, fundamental approaches and skills about agriculture and forestry economics and management, especially those of socio-economic surveys of rural and forest areas, operation and management of agricultural and forest enterprises as well as techno-economic analysis of agriculture and forestry.

Characteristics

Standardized Field Work Practice Base and Social Practice Base

Students are arranged to conduct cognitive practice in modern agriculture depending on modernized agricultural enterprises and undertake social practice involving “social surveys and data analysis” relying on tracking major long-term research projects. Connecting students’ practice with research projects directly is a key guarantee for cultivating research-oriented talents with innovative thinking and capability.

Opportunities for Research Training

As a state-level characteristic program and a pilot program of the Reform of Cultivation Schemes of Outstanding Agriculture and Forestry Talents of the Ministry of Education, the students of Agriculture and Forestry Economics and Management Program have more access to research funding and training projects at national, provincial and university levels. Since 2014, 100% of our students who applied for research funding and training projects have been approved.

Opportunities to Learn Statistical Software at Prestigious Universities in China

Since 2014, 27 students have been funded to attend workshops on statistical measurement software, such as SPSS, Stata, SAS at Renmin University of China and Sun Yat-sen University.

Opportunities to Participate in State-level Academic Contests

Two teams made up of students from Agriculture and Forestry Economics and Management Program won the first prize in 2015 National College Student Forestry Economics and Management Academic Project Contest.

Students’ Own Academic Association--Research Association of Forestry Economy for College Students 

This organization has its fixed office, a journalExploration in Forestry Economy,which solicits contributions from college students, along with its own labeled “Forum on Forestry Economy for College Students”.

More Opportunities to Study abroad through Exchange Programs

Since 2014, our program has sent exchange students to study in Finland, South Korea and Taiwan each year.

Students’Prospect

Our graduates can engage in management in agricultural and forest administrative departments in governments at all levels, modern agricultural and forest enterprises as well as enterprises and public institutions involving financial investment in agriculture and forestry. Some of them can be recommended to be postgraduates without examination at prestigious universities or be admitted to well-known graduate schools after postgraduate entrance examination or go abroad for further education. 37.3% of 2016 graduates have been admitted to graduate schools for their master’s degree; 85.1% of them have been recommended to be postgraduates in “Project 985” universities; 21.3% of them have passed the Civil Service Examination or Public Institutions Examination; 10.2% of them have been recruited by banks or financing institutions; 31.2% of them have been employed by enterprises.

Agriculture and Forestry Economy and Management Program, a subsidiary of the Forestry Economy Management Discipline, serves as the source of China’s forestry economy and management, boasting a long history and abundant accumulation. This program has achieved remarkable results in cultivating high-level talents, including a multiple senior management personnel and scientific and technological talents in forestry, two of whom are officials of ministerial rank, as well as administrators in local economic management. This program offers a wealth of opportunities for further study.
