The College of Traffic was established in September 1999. It was based on the vehicle application engineering specialty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering School, and the Automotive Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Station of Heilongjiang Province. Its major courses began in 1957, and it was one of the earliest schools which taught and researched in the field of vehicle application engineering and transportation engineering in China. After more than 50 years of construction, the major evolved from forestry machinery application and repair, vehicle application engineering, to traffic and transportation. Now, the transportation major in the College of Traffic has evolved into a discipline with a transportation engineering first-level doctoral and a master degree programs (including three master degree programs in transportation engineering, namely vehicle operation engineering, transportation planning and management, and traffic information engineering and control). In the college, there are two professional master’s degree programs of transportation engineering, and logistics engineering. In addition, the college has four undergraduate programs: transportation engineering, traffic engineering, vehicle engineering and vehicle service engineering. Finally, there is also a postdoctoral research station in the college. For over 50 years, the College of Traffic has trained more than 5,000 undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. students, and other types of professional and technical personnel. Some of them have become well-known experts, scholars, influential leaders in automotive and transportation industry, and entrepreneurs. Currently, there are more than 800 undergraduates, and 160 master and doctoral students studying in the college.
There are 63 Faculty in the college, including 8 professors, 22 associate professors, 3 senior engineers, 5 doctoral tutors, 31 master’s tutors, 2 adjunct professor and doctoral tutors. More than 62% of teachers have a Ph.D. or are in process of earning their degree.
The engineering experiment center of the College of Traffic covers an area of5000 square meters, and the equipment and instruments are valued at 20 million RMB. The college also includes the Society of Automotive Engineers of Heilongjiang Province, Automotive Industry Association Secretariat of Heilongjiang Province, the Automotive Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Station of Heilongjiang Province, schools and enterprises auto part engineering technology research center of Heilongjiang Province. Academic exchanges and cooperative relations have been established with the United States, Japan and South Korea universities or research institutions.
With years of teaching, research and social services, the College of Traffic has accumulated a wealth of scientific and technological achievements and experience to solve practical engineering problems. It has launched the developments of PT pump test bench, the air brake system pressure test bench, motor vehicle safety inspection systems, and automotive repair equipment and processes research. The brushless electromagnetic fan clutch, fuel-efficient driving indicator, auto-saving technologies and products have been developed in the college. The college has researched clean fuel vehicles, rare earth catalysts and catalytic converters, photo catalytic degradable materials, and other automotive environmental protection and energy conservation technologies.
The research of automobile fault diagnosis theory and technology, the uses of renewable resources, the monitoring of transportation overload, traffic emergency support, the program of traffic accident analysis and other research in traffic safety engineering have been launched in the college. The fractal theory of traffic flow, thermodynamics of traffic flow theory, transportation planning, traffic impact, traffic related issues in cold areas, and so on have also been studied in our college. Some of the research results have already been adapted in many practical applications.
