“Chinese Kung Fu is a fascinating art form that has gained popularity worldwide. Delving into Tai Chi with Chinese teachers and students was a thrilling experience!” Aulin College recently organized an event, “Experiencing Chinese Kung Fu with Foreign Teachers,” a journey of discovery and learning. Twelve foreign teachers from diverse countries, such as the UK, the US, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, France, etc., donned traditional Chinese Tai Chi attire and joined the NEFU teachers and students in this enriching experience.
The heart of the event was Chinese Kung Fu, a cultural gem embodying China’s wisdom, spirit, and essence. Guiding us through this journey was Cao Liyong, a seasoned teacher from Northeast Forestry University, who has achieved the seventh Dan in Chinese Kung Fu. His role was pivotal in providing a profound understanding of the origin and evolution of Chinese Kung Fu, the factors shaping different boxing styles, and the unique characteristics of various schools, enriching the event. Using Tai Chi as a prime example, he unveiled the inherent connection between Chinese Kung Fu and Eastern philosophy, showcasing its allure. His captivating discourse and agile movements left an indelible mark on everyone.

The Students of the Association of Chinese Kung Fu stole the show with their impressive display of skills. They demonstrated various techniques with weapons like spears, sticks, knives, and nine-section whips, showcasing the diversity of Chinese Kung Fu. The foreign teachers also participated, gracefully moving their hands and feet, experiencing the “stillness in motion,” “softness overcoming hardness,” and “borrowing force to exert force” of Tai Chi. They immersed themselves in the joy of learning Chinese Kung Fu, each move revealing the profound thoughts concealed within the art.

“We all know that China has a Kung Fu star named Bruce Lee, and I have always been a fan of Chinese Kung Fu. It is the first time I have experienced it, and it is truly amazing and exciting. After returning to my hometown, I can tell my family and friends I know Chinese Kung Fu!” exclaimed Ravi Chandra, an Australian foreign teacher. On the event day, the NEFU gave foreign teachers a pair of nunchucks as a gift. They were thrilled and expressed their eagerness to bring the nunchucks back to their home country and practice with their families.

Chinese Kung Fu, a treasure of human civilization, transcends borders and belongs to the world. Luo Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Aulin College, proudly stated that Aulin College integrated advanced educational concepts and high-quality educational resources from both China and abroad. Each year, foreign teachers enrich the NEFU community with their teachings. After completing their domestic study tasks, some Chinese students from the college will venture abroad for further studies. Luo Wei shared, “The Kung Fu learning between foreign teachers and Chinese students is a testament to our carefully curated cultural exchange activities under our Culture Day brand. In the future, we plan to host more experiential activities like calligraphy, tea art, paper-cutting, etc., intending to nurture the rich traditional Chinese culture in the hearts of Chinese students and foreign teachers and share the story of China with the world.”
