Brief Introduction
The computer science and technology major was established in 1988. Now this major is the Undergraduate Comprehensive Reform Pilot Major of the Ministry of Education of China and a Heilongjiang Key Major. This major’s personnel training orientation is “providing senior engineers and project managers of software design, development, test, operation, and maintenance of IT enterprises and quality Master’s students for science and research institutions.” This major has 31 full-time faculty, including 6 professors, 13 associate professors and 12 lecturers. Among them, 70% have Ph. D. degrees. There are 5Doctoral Supervisors, 12 Masters Supervisors and 5 teachers have the experience of studying abroad or as visiting scholars. This major also has a good teaching spirit and 2 teachers have gained the honor of “Heilongjiang Colleges Outstanding Ethics Teachers” in the past three years. The faculty have a high level in fields like graphics and image processing technology, computer control, network and information security, big data and cloud computing, and geographic information technology. The postgraduates are recruited into Master of Science Degree Programs like Computer Application Technology, Professional Master Degree Programs like Computer Technology and the Secondary Discipline Doctor Degree Program of Forestry Information Engineering.
Characteristics
The training concept for talents is “possessing the capability of high-quality working and the ability of high-quality living.” The students are encouraged to get involved in all kinds of art and physical activities and develop their own talents.
The major focuses on the accumulation of basic professional knowledge and the training in program design. The graduates are practical, hard-working, having the characteristics of “expertise in capability and good at many other capabilities” and are strongly adaptable to suit many positions. The major has two College Student Innovation Labs which cover a total area of more than 300 m2. Students can choose to participate in different domestic and international projects according to their own will, for example, College Students training project of Ministry of Education, university science and research training project, ACM International College Students Program Design Competition, Robot Soccer Competition, Java Programming Contest etc. Through these, the students can form their own expertise; improve the competition ability to select career and study further. Our students won the first medal in the China Final of “The 10thInternational Contest of Innovation of iCAN” in October 2016.

Computer science and technology major of Northeast Forestry University has a long history, large school scale and high level teaching. The major responsible leader and 4 teachers have gained the Ph. D. and Master degree in the School of Computer Science of Harbin Institute of Technology and show a strong ability of science, research and engineering. Over the past five years, more than 30 undergraduates have studied further for their Master’s Degree. About the Specialist
As a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, Wang Yadong is Dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology and Dean of the School of Software of Harbin Institute of Technology. He is also the member of the Standing Committee of Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Council Member of China Computer Federation and Chief Scientist of National “863” major project—“Research on Key Techniques of Development and Utilization of Biological Big Data”.
Students’ View
During this four-year study, I have been enriched with Computer knowledge and have a deeper understanding of the working principles and application scenarios of computers under the sustained guidance of teachers. As Bill Gates said, the computer is inherently used to solve problems that have not existed previously. The current social demand for computers is gradually increasing, from a small controller chips, to high-performance servers have been all covered by this major’s knowledge.
As a Ph.D. in structural disciplines in the School of Computer Sciences of Harbin Institute of Technology, I feel strongly that the study of undergraduate (the fundamental part) has played a significant role in my future career. I have been acknowledged quickly through the obligatory courses set according to the in-depth of the major of Computer by my alma mater and by grasping this one major, I have grasped lots of other information. Additionally, I have extended my knowledge scale through the various optional courses which are set oriented with interests and the needs of present social demands. I have figured out the direction of my Computer interest and been on the way of chasing my dream through the undergraduate study.
