On November 30, the 2018 Wildlife Guardian Action and the 6th Wildlife Guardian Awards Ceremony was held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. The Wildlife Testing Centerof the NationalForestryand GrasslandAdministration (Judicial AppraisalOffice ofNortheast Forestry University) was awarded the 6th Wildlife Guardian Award—Professional Achievement Award·YingziGuardian Award. Professor Bai Suying was present to receive the award.
Theprize-winning reason fortheWildlife Testing Centerwas:“Aftermore than 20 years of research and practice, the center has explored and established a variety of types of materials, and developeda series of forestry industry standards in the field of wildlife identificationwithmorphological and Molecular biologicalmethods. Weappreciatethe center for theircontinuous effortsandcontributionsto combat wildlife crimes and protect rare and endangered wildlife.
Peng Youdong, deputy director of the National Forestry and GrasslandAdministration, Wu Zhimin, director of the Wildlife Protection Department of the National Forestry and GrasslandAdministration, Meng Xianlin, director of the National Cooperation Department of the National Forestry and GrasslandAdministration, Du Yongsheng, chairman of the China Green Carbon Foundation, Li Qingwen, vice president and secretary general oftheChina Wildlife Conservation Association, Guo Lixin, deputy secretary general oftheChina Wildlife Conservation Association, Wang He, deputy director of theAnti-smuggling Bureauof the General Administration of Customs, Wang Aimin, director of the Beijing Office of the Wildlife ConservationAssociation(USA), and more than 200 guests from thefrontline of wildlife protection, media and enterprises attended the award ceremony. Peng Youdongpointed out in his speech that wild animals and plants are an important part of the natural ecosystem and play an irreplaceable role in maintaining ecological security, promoting sustainable development, and passing down human culture. The Chinese government has always adhered to the concept of sustainable developmentandactively takenmeasures to protect wildlife, making great achievements.
The event was co-hosted by the China Wildlife Conservation Association, the China Green Carbon Foundation and the Wildlife Conservation Society, co-organized by the TRAFFIC and WildAid, and supported by the Department of Wildlife Conservation and Nature Reserve Management of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the Forest Public Security Bureau of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and the Anti-smuggling Bureau and the China Import and Export Management Office of Endangered Species of the General Administration of Customs. After nearly half a year, 34 award-winning teams and individuals were selected from 190 applicants in the fields of forestry, protected areas, forest public security, customs, marine police, fishery, inspection and quarantine, and were awarded Science and Technology Guardian, Pioneer Guardian, Yingzi Guardian, Endeavour Guardian, Model Guardian, Media Advocate Guardian, Image Drive Guardian and other honorary titles.
The Wildlife Guardian Award was first presented in 2008 and is used primarily to reward advanced teams and individuals working on thefront linesof wildlife conservation.
