On July 29, 2023, the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Intelligence Competition for College Students in Surveying and Mapping Disciplines was held in Central South University, and our students won 4 first prizes and 8 second prizes. The event was indexed in the competition catalog of the 2023 National Competition Analysis Report for College Students in Colleges and Universities, and this year’s competition is the first competition after the index, and is also the highest-level event for national college students to show their innovation in surveying and mapping science and technology, with more than 5,500 students participating in the competition. There are three competitions: Surveying and Mapping Skills Competition, Development Design Competition, and Scientific and Technical Paper Competition. Among them, the Surveying and Mapping Skills Competition, in which a total of 310 colleges and universities have registered to participate, is divided into four groups: virtual simulation digital mapping, unmanned aerial surveying virtual simulation, airborne lidar virtual simulation, and surveying and mapping program design. The School of Civil Engineering and Transportation organized students to participate in all categories of the Surveying and Mapping Skills Competition, which comprehensively demonstrated the innovative ability and engineering quality of our students.

Surveying and mapping science and technology involves geographic information, spatial data, cartography and other fields of knowledge. The Teaching and Research Department of Surveying in the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation actively explores the teaching mode of Innovation in Learning, Practice in Innovation, and Growth in Practice, adheres to the concept of Promoting Learning by Competition, Promoting Teaching by Competition, pays attention to the cultivation of students’ engineering practical ability, constantly broadens the dimension of professional cultivation, and continuously improves the effectiveness of education.
