On October 26, the 23rd China University Swimming Championships (Northern Region) concluded successfully at the Baihe Swimming Pool in the Lanzhou Olympic Sports Center. NEFU sent a team of 11 athletes to the competition. After four days of intense events, the team emerged victorious, winning the Group A overall team championship, securing second place in the Group A women’s category, and achieving fourth place in the Group A men’s category. Our athletes brought home 5 gold, 6 silver, and 1 bronze medal while setting a new event record. The university was additionally honored with the Sportsmanship Award. Liu Dan, a teacher from the Physical Education Department, received the title of “Sportsmanship Award Coach.” At the same time, students Hou Yaan from Olympic College and Li Wenbo from Landscape College were named “Sportsmanship Award Athletes.”
Diao Yifan, a 2022 student from the College of Material, claimed victory in the Group A women’s 200m backstroke with a record-breaking time of 2:39.65, securing her place as a top performer. She won a remarkable 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal in the championships. Additionally, Hou Yaan, a 2024 student from Aulin College, participated in a national competition for the first time just two months after enrolling. He displayed impressive determination and skill and won 2 gold and 2 silver medals, embodying the energy and upward spirit of NEFU’s new generation.
This championship was organized by the China Student Sports Federation and the Lanzhou Municipal Government and hosted by the Lanzhou Sports Bureau. Nearly 800 athletes and coaches from 80 universities participated in the event, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Nanjing University, Jilin University, and Beijing Sport University.
