The College of Marxism of Northeast Forestry University was established based on the Marxist Studies Department of Northeast Forestry College, founded in 1952. In 1985, it was renamed as the Social Sciences Department; in 1989, it was renamed as theDivision ofSocial Sciences Department; in 1997, it was renamed as the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; in 2010, it wasre-established as an independent departmentof Marxist Teaching and Research; in 2012, it was renamed as the College of Marxism; in 2016, it was approved as one of the first batch of key Marxist colleges in colleges of Heilongjiang Province.
The college currently has 89 full-time and part-time teachers. Among them, there are 20 professors, 27 associate professors, 57 teachers with doctoral degrees, one individual who is an advanced national-level person in grassroots theoretical publicity, one national outstanding teacher, one youth talent in publicity and ideological and cultural work of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, two provincial B-level talents of Heilongjiang Province, one young scholar of Longjiang, one cultural master of Heilongjiang Province and a theorist among the "Sixty Ones" of Heilongjiang Province, and one recipient of the special government allowance of the Heilongjiang Provincial Government. The college currently has seven teaching and research departments, one network laboratory, one national-level studio for ideological and political courses of universities, four studios for ideological and political courses of universities in Heilongjiang Province, and one national-level studio for ideological and political courses of universities in Heilongjiang Province. It also has research institutions such as the “Heilongjiang Provincial Research Center for Ecological Civilization”, the “Heilongjiang Provincial Key Think Tank for Ecological Civilization Construction and Green Development”, and the “Heilongjiang Provincial Academic Exchange Base for Ecological Civilization Research”. The college is responsible for teaching ideological and political theory courses throughout the university and constructing disciplines, talent cultivation, scientific research, cultural inheritance, and social services.
The discipline of Marxist Theory at Northeast Forestry University originated from the undergraduate major of Ideological and Political Education established in 1985. In 2000, it was approved to offer master’s degree in the discipline of Marxist Theory and Ideological and Political Education; in 2006, it was approved to offer master’s degree in the discipline of Marxist Theory and doctoral degree in the discipline of Ideological and Political Education at the secondary level; in 2012, it was approved to establish a postdoctoral research station in the discipline of Marxist Theory; in 2021, it was approved to offer doctoral degree in the discipline of Marxist Theory; in 2023, it was approved to offer the undergraduate major of Marxist Theory, and in September 2024, it achievedan integrated education system spanning bachelor's, master’s, and doctoral levels.Currently, the discipline recruits master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral students in four secondary discipline directions: Basic Principles of Marxism, History of Marxism, Research on the Sinicization of Marxism, and Ideological and Political Education.
