The Communication Engineering program at Northeast Forestry University was established in 2001. This program is affiliated with theCollegeof Information and Computer Engineering. It was approved as a key specialty of Northeast Forestry University in 2015 and granted the Heilongjiang Provincial First-Class Specialty Construction Site in 2021. The program is supported by the “first-class construction” discipline of Forestry Engineering; three first-level discipline master's degree programs in Information and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, and Forestry Information Engineering; professional degree master's programs in the Electronic Information category (New Generation Electronic Information Technology (including quantum technology, etc.), Computer Technology, and Software Engineering); and the professional degree master’s program in Agricultural Engineering and Information Technology under the Agriculture Master's program.
The Communication Engineering program is designed to meet the social and economic development needs of the nation, the Northeast regional economy, and the forestry industry. It aims to cultivate high-level engineering talents who embody well-rounded development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education, serving as socialist builders and successors with Chinese characteristics. Graduates will possess the ability to address complex engineering problems in modern communication networks, data communication, and data processing, along with competencies in communication, collaboration, teamwork, innovation awareness, and international perspectives. They will be qualified to engage in solution architecture, technical research, system development, system integration, operation maintenance, and project management. The program is aligned with the forefront of the communication field, focusing on the integration with artificial intelligence, the convergence of computing and networking, and the development of communication software-oriented curriculum systems.
64% of the faculty members hold a Ph.D. degree. All faculty members in this program possess engineering practice experience. In recent years, the program has conducted in-depth research on communication technologies required for complex engineering problems in smart forestry, including information acquisition, transmission, and processing in forest management, fire monitoring, and ecological environment construction. The program has undertaken multiple national and provincial-level projects related to forestry and communications, demonstrating profound research capabilities in smart forestry communication technologies with distinct service target characteristics. The program's talent cultivation features provide comprehensive support for achieving educational objectives through service targets, knowledge systems, capability frameworks, and competency guarantees. Faculty members have led or participated in over 30 national, provincial, and municipal vertical/horizontal research projects and five provincial-level educational reform initiatives. Achievements include: 2 provincial-level Science and Technology Progress Second Prizes and 2 Third Prizes; 1 national first prize and two national second prizes in the“Da Tang Cup”National Dual-Qualified Teachers New Generation Information and Communication Technology Competition; 1 university-level teaching achievement award; authorship/co-authorship of over 20 published textbooks; publication of more than 150 academic papers; and acquisition of over 50 invention patents and utility model patents.
The Communication Engineering program, through years of academic accumulation, has established an educational philosophy of "industry orientation, multidisciplinary integration, intrinsic cultivation, and unity of virtue and practice." It has formed distinct service objectives: cultivating talents in the field of communication engineering and the forestry industry while serving the societal and economic development of Northeast China. The program features a diversified cultivation model integrating sector, enterprises, disciplines, and specialties; implements an educational approach that combines the cultivation of practical competencies with collaborative education; and maintains distinctive talent development characteristics by upholding the fundamental mission of cultivating well-rounded socialist builders and successors with comprehensive development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. The program remains committed to nurturing qualified builders and reliable successors of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
The program adheres to the OBE philosophy in its educational practices, maintaining a student-centered approach, outcome-oriented competency cultivation, and continuous improvement. Having passed the Engineering Education Professional Certification in 2022 demonstrates that the Communication Engineering program possesses well-defined educational objectives, scientifically structured graduation requirements, and adequate institutional resources to support its operation.
To ensure competency development, the Communication Engineering program has established specialized laboratories, including the Communication and Network Switching Laboratory (featuring a practical 4G communication system), the Electromagnetic Fields and Waves Laboratory, and the Communication and Signal Processing Laboratory, with a combined asset value of approximately 4.1 million RMB. The program maintains long-term collaborations with leading domestic ICT enterprises to align with industry standards. Notably, it has co-established an on-campus end-to-end network internship and training base with Datang Mobile Communications Equipment Co., Ltd.,replicatingreal-world telecommunication equipment room environments. This facility enables students to comprehend full-process communication operations and develop comprehensive network concepts on campus, significantly enhancing their capacity to address complex engineering problems.Through the Electronics and Information Innovation Laboratory forUniversityStudents, undergraduates conduct innovation/entrepreneurship training and participate in disciplinary competitions. Recent achievements include dozens of national-level awards in prestigious contests, such as:
- NationalUniversityStudent Mathematical Modeling Competition
- National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest
- National Intelligent Car Racing Competition
- NationalUniversityStudent Robotics Competition
-“Datang Cup”National Mobile Communication Technology Competition
- ZTE Paving Moon Algorithm Elite Challenge.
