Since its establishment, the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program at Northeast Forestry University has consistently been one of the institution's key construction programs. Founded in 1980, it was among the first mathematics programs in Heilongjiang Province and part of the university's inaugural group of prioritized programs. For decades, the program has adhered to the educational philosophy of "solidifying foundations while emphasizing competence; highlighting distinctive features while valuing applications," dedicated to cultivating professionals with robust mathematical foundations, innovative thinking, and practical capabilities. The Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program boasts a faculty team with profound academic accomplishments and rich teaching experience. This distinguished teaching staff has achieved substantial research outcomes in fundamental mathematical theory and applied mathematical statistics, publishing over a hundred high-quality research papers in domestic and international core journals while undertaking numerous national and provincial-level research projects. The curriculum encompasses core courses in pure and applied mathematics, complemented by interdisciplinary electives featuring distinct forestry and agricultural characteristics. These courses help students build a rigorous mathematical foundation while developing systematic logical reasoning and innovative capabilities. The program emphasizes integrating theory and practice through comprehensive practical teaching components, including professional skills training, internships, thesis projects, innovation initiatives, and mathematical modeling competitions. These enable students to deepen theoretical knowledge and enhance problem-solving abilities in real-world contexts. Students are actively encouraged to participate in various mathematics competitions and research projects to foster innovative awareness and scientific research competencies. Over the years, students have achieved outstanding results in domestic and international mathematics competitions. Graduates from the program enjoy broad career prospects across multiple sectors, including technology, education, finance, and software development. In recent years, over 30% of graduates have pursued advanced studies through postgraduate recommendations or examinations, with many admitted to top-tier universities domestically and internationally.
