(1) Program Overview

This program is part of the National Talent Training Base for Life Sciences and Technology. It follows the principles of “highlighting forestry characteristics, staying at the forefront of the discipline, strengthening practical abilities, cultivating scientific literacy, and fostering an innovative spirit” in its curriculum design. The program provides a solid foundation in mathematics, physics, and chemistry and rigorous training in research thinking, professional theory, and specialized skills. Students will master the fundamental theories, essential knowledge, and core life sciences and technology skills, with the ability to internalize, transfer, apply, and innovate. The program aims to cultivate innovative talents in biotechnology to meet national needs. The program lasts four years, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. Graduates can be directly recommended for master’s and doctoral studies. The discipline has the right to grant both master’s and doctoral degrees.

(2) Training Objectives

This program emphasizes the unique aspects of forestry biotechnology and addresses critical national biotechnology needs. It is designed to cultivate highly skilled professionals with intense patriotism, high professional competence, an international perspective, team spirit, and strong independent innovation capabilities. Graduates will be equipped to engage in theoretical and applied research, technological development, talent cultivation, and management within biotechnology-related industries such as forestry, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals.

(3) Core Curriculum

Fundamental Core Courses: Introduction to Biotechnology, Zoology, Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry Experiment, Advanced Mathematics B, Organic Chemistry B, Organic Chemistry Experiment, Botany, Biochemistry A, BiochemistryExperiment A, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology (Bilingual), Molecular Biology Experiment, Cell Biology, and English for Biotechnology.

Specialized Core Courses: Animal Physiology, Principles and Techniques of Immunology, Principles and Techniques of Animal Cell Engineering, Epigenetics and Its Applications, Principles and Techniques of Animal Development, Bioactive Substances and Pharmacological Analysis.

Key Practical Training Modules: This includes compulsory practical modules such as laboratory courses, Zoology, Botany, and Microbiology fieldwork, integrated molecular biology technical training, and a graduation thesis. Elective training opportunities are available in research practice, fermentation engineering, biopharmaceuticals, cell culture, and antibody engineering.

(4) Distinctive Advantages

Advantage 1: This program, approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Education, is designated a “National Talent Training Base for Life Sciences and Technology.”

Advantage 2: Graduates of this program are highly regarded and sought after by major domestic research institutions and universities. The 2016 cohort achieved a graduate acceptance rate of 85.29% and was featured on Heilongjiang Provincial TV as the “Genius Class.” In the 2017 cohort, 14 out of 27 students were recommended for graduate studies, yielding an acceptance rate of 81.5%, with a 100% pass rate for the CET-4 exam. This cohort was reported on by Northeast Network and Phoenix TV. In the 2019 cohort, 10% of graduates were recommended for graduate studies at Peking University and Tsinghua University. In the 2020 cohort, 19 out of 30 students were recommended for graduate studies, with one student accepted by Tsinghua University and two by Peking University, and the class was featured on Harbin City TV.

(5) Graduate Destinations

Further Studies

◆Over the past three years, more than 74% of graduates have pursued further studies, including those recommended for admission without entrance examinations.

◆Among them, more than 98% have been admitted to prestigious "985 Project" and "211 Project" universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Science and Technology of China, and Nankai University.

Employment

◆The average initial employment rate over the past three years has exceeded 82%. Graduates are primarily employed in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, as well as provincial capitals like Wuhan, Shenyang, and Zhengzhou.

◆Leading employers include Muyuan Foods Co., Ltd., and Tianjin Novogene Bioinformatics Technology Co., Ltd.

Overseas Studies

◆In the past three years, many graduates have pursued advanced studies abroad, enrolling in renowned universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, and other countries.
