Overview
The Heilongjiang Provincial Communications Research Institute and the College of Civil Engineering at Northeast Forestry University jointly established the Heilongjiang Cold Region Highway Engineering Technology Laboratory. The Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology approved it as a provincial key laboratory 2006. The laboratory was established against the backdrop of the rapid development of the national transportation industry, leveraging the regional advantages of cold regions. It focuses on conducting basic and applied research, tackling major key technological challenges, exploring cutting-edge technologies, and undertaking public-interest technological studies related to highway construction and maintenance in seasonally frozen soil areas. The laboratory provides long-term and continuous technical support for highway construction in Heilongjiang Province. It offers a research platform for integrating industry, education, and research between universities and enterprises.
The laboratory has demonstrated strong development momentum, earning the Heilongjiang Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Base Award 2018. Ten college faculty members are affiliated with the laboratory as visiting researchers who conduct collaborative research. The laboratory is equipped with over 200 sets of instruments and devices valued at over 30 million RMB, reaching an advanced domestic level. It also possesses complete SHARP (Strategic Highway Research Program) equipment from the United States and comprehensive field testing facilities.
