I. General Descriptions
The social work program at NEFU was started in 2003 as one of the earliest such programs in the universities affiliated with Heilongjiang Province. In 2018, it was approved with the right to grant a master’s degree and accredited as a first-level program of Heilongjiang Province in 2020. It has 14 full-time teachers, including two professors and five associate professors. Ten of them have certificates as social workers, and six have certificates as psychological consultants.
II. Training Objectives
This program aims to develop inter-disciplinary talents and skills simultaneously capable of management, research, and practice. The graduates of this program can enter government agencies and enterprises to engage in management work, establish or enter social work institutions for social service activities, or get employed by schools and research institutes to engage in teaching and scientific research. It holds firm the talent training model of being development-oriented and focusing on quality and ability. It makes the most significant effort to develop students into generalists, featuring stronger social adaptability and greater development potential.
III. Core Courses
Core basic courses:Introduction to the Program, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Social Work, Methodologies in Social Research, and Social Welfare Thought.
Core professional courses:Group Work, Case Work, Community Work, Social Administration, Social Psychology, Social Security, Social Policy, Family Social Work, Women’s Social Work, etc.
Main practical teaching components:Social survey, social work practice, graduation practice, graduation thesis, etc.

VII. Expert’s Comments on this Program
Social work is a program that is emerging and growing along with China’s reform and opening up. Social work talents are one of the six key types of talents in the new era of China and shoulder the heavy responsibility of spreading national care and playing a part in social governance. After nearly two decades of construction, this program has achieved significant development. It has kept improving its teaching staff and experimental conditions, established diverse practice bases, and developed scientific and reasonable talent training plans. Its graduates are distributed to government agencies, universities, enterprises, and social service agencies, and most have achieved good development.
