The English Department was founded in 1983 and is the earliest English program established in engineering and agricultural colleges in Heilongjiang Province. The college now offers a master’s program in Foreign Language and Literature, with two secondary disciplines: English Language and Literature and Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, an MTI Professional Education Center, and a Language and Teaching Research Institute. In 2011, Heilongjiang Province recognized the English program as a key program. In 2019, it was approved as a first-class undergraduate program in Heilongjiang Province and was included in the 2021 National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction List.
The English program aims to cultivate students with solid language foundations, comprehensive competence, a sense of national responsibility, and an understanding of ecological civilization. Students will acquire strong English language proficiency, professional knowledge, and essential cross-cultural communication skills. They will be prepared to serve national and local economic development and social needs. They will engage in translation, international trade, research, teaching, and management in the trade, culture, education, research, and forestry sectors.
The program emphasizes internationalization, recruiting senior international supervisors from prestigious foreign universities and research institutions. It has established talent cultivation, faculty-student exchange, and academic cooperation projects with over ten universities in the UK, the US, and Australia.
