I. General Descriptions

The political science and administration program was founded in 1985 as the earliest undergraduate program of the College of Humanities and Law and one of NEFU’s key construction programs. As an inter-disciplinary program, the political science and administration program has the characteristics of both theory and application. It aims to develop research-oriented talents featuring a profound political theory foundation, stronger scientific ability, and greater intention to further study for master’s and doctoral degrees. It also strives to train senior applied talents with high ideological and theoretical attainment, master the skills of policy analysis and social practice, and show a strong ability in political management, administrative management, and human resources management. The graduates from this program engage in policy study, administrative management, public administration, scientific research and teaching, and other related professional businesses for all levels of party and government agencies, foreign affairs departments, military systems, news and publication agencies, education systems, social organizations, enterprises, and corporations. The master’s program at NEFU, which corresponds to the program at the undergraduate level, consists of constitutional law and administrative law, administrative management, and ideological and political education. Every student in the political science and administration program holds utter innocence, aspires for the nation and the world, lays the foundation for lofty ideals, and contemplates worldly affairs and life from a higher perspective.

II. Training Objectives

This program aims to train the inter-disciplinary talents who master the fundamental theories and professional knowledge of political science, administrative science, and international political science, have Marxism theoretical attainment, firm and correct political directions, excellent moral qualities, good psychological qualities, political and legal thinking, management ability and quality, relearning and theoretical research ability, stronger oral and written expression ability, social communication ability, and organization, coordination and execution ability and are competent enough to engage in organization, publicity, discipline inspection, administrative management, public service, human resource management, social science research, etc.

Core basic courses:Principles of Political Science, History of Western Political Thought, History of Chinese Political Thought, Public Administration, Chinese Government and Politics, International Politics, Social Science Research Methods, Administrative Document Writing, etc.

Core professional courses:Ecological Politics, Public Policy, Human Resource Management, Comparative Political Institutions, Contemporary Chinese Diplomacy, Government Economics, Comparative Politics, Crisis Management, etc.

Main practical teaching components:Social surveys, human resources management, table confrontation training, practical training on foreign affairs etiquette, practical training of model United Nations (MUN), scientific research, and college students’ innovative entrepreneurial training program, book report, graduation practice, and graduation thesis.

Feature 1:This program aims to cultivate research-oriented and interdisciplinary applied talents. The graduates of this program are welcomed by a wide range of employers, showing a high quality and strong occupational stability. The program field of political science focuses on the cultivation of research-oriented talents. It has seen a high level of universities that accept our students based on postgraduate entrance examinations and recommendations for many years. It also achieves a high proportion of students entering higher universities. The program field of administrative science prioritizes the development of applied talents and provides many opportunities for practice and practical training. All relevant courses are designed to cover a wide range of occupational abilities, ensure a solid foundation, and develop multiple skills. 80% of the courses are accompanied by practice and practical training.

Feature 2:Based on the forestry and ecology characteristics of NEFU, the program has determined the research field of ecological politics and highlighted the ecologically coordinated development mechanism of the forestry region in the northeast borderland as the research characteristics. By adhering to the operation principles of boosting the local economic and social development, the program has initiated the public security governance of the northeast borderland in Heilongjiang Province. Therefore, the team research program of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Prosperity Plan of NEFU was approved for this program. Meanwhile, the special research project of Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security on the talents of state-owned enterprises and institutions was granted to the program. It also participated in studies on measures and policies to attract and retain talent for the border counties of Heilongjiang Province, a key strategic development planning program of the Heilongjiang Federation of Social Science Associations.

Feature 3:Focus on student skill training. The students from this have participated in national professional skill competitions for five consecutive years and achieved excellent results. Main competitions: China Model United Nations Competition, Model United Nations Competition of Peking University and other universities, National College Student Human Resource Management Knowledge and Skills Competition, National College Student and Cross-Strait College Student Human Resource Management Practice Skills Competition, Tsinghua University Public Policy Case Competition, National and Regional College Student Speaking Contest, etc.

Nan Lijun, professor, master’s supervisor, and head of political science and administration, mainly studies Marxism State Governance Theory, urban culture, and public security in the northeast borderland. His social part-time jobs include the vice president of the Heilongjiang Provincial Public Administration Society and the deputy secretary-general of the Heilongjiang Provincial Political Science Society.
